ECOSYSTEM SERVICES

SHELLFISH PRODUCTION

PSI efforts to protect shellfish and human health include research and outreach ocean acidification, pollution and excess nutrients, and harmful algal blooms. We also conduct research to reduced risk of shellfish-related illness.

PSI Shellfish & Human Health Projects

PSI aims to improve our understanding of the marine environment through enhanced and expanded monitoring an evaluation of water quality and biological conditions and interactions. We also conduct research and outreach to enhance our understanding of the social and ecological impacts of shellfish and shellfish aquaculture, including potential benefits to water quality and habitat.

PSI Ecosystem Services Projects

PSI works to ensure that the information needs of the shellfish community are understood and addressed through multi-disciplinary research and outreach. This includes research into more sustainable shellfish production methods and technologies. We also provide federal, state, tribal, and local decision-makers with the best available shellfish research and information for integration into planning and management frameworks.
